Game 6 : Damo, Dimmi, Ed who? MOJE (70) defeated Traders (39)

Woah sports fans and in particular basketball nuts, there is a show in town you have to see! For weeks now my journalistic friend and part time social networking fanatic Yeu from SI was banging on about a team called MOJE and espousing their dynamic play to all who would listen. "Recently formed and playing out at Dandenong on Monday nights in the premier league, this team is playing some fantastic basketball" he writes on a special blog dedicated to this team. http://teammoje.blogspot.com/ He has invited me to write a recap on his behalf as he is attending an international conference on the next trends in social networking in sports journalism.
Well I took my little cousin Mo along to this game to watch the MOJE crew display their wares in the first heatwave of the season. I thought Mo might like the fact this team’s name had part of his in it. If the game was boring, Mo could at least buy me dinner as he never stops eating. I watched the teams warm up and MOJE looked OK but nothing special. I was trying hard to identify some of the players Yeu had told me to look out for. Damo, Dimmi and and a guy named Ed. The last Ed I knew was Mr Ed so I was not sure if Yeu had lost it when he was saying this guy in particular had range that would qualify him for a game of horse with Bird and MJ for Big Macs, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oACRt-Qp-s .
Anyway, the ref called time and we were ready for the tip-off and in ran a small guard for MOJE through the doors, obviously late but I thought maybe he was Ed. I had given up on finding Damo and Dimmi as there were no white guys on this team. The closest thing to a Dimmi around was the special home made dim sims Mo was downing. No offer to share with me yet either.
The tip was well won by MOJE's centre Quan with a sweet tap to guard Chris, a veteran on the team, he rarely ever starts but with a depleted roster and a late guard who was in fact Wilson, still getting himself ready with pilates like stretching, Chris found himself with the ball at the top. I then was not impressed when he simply had it stripped from behind. Not a good start. On the next play MOJE got the stop and Huy for MOJE confidently brought it up the court and found Chris on the wing, he nailed what would be a series of threes for the night from the MOJE guards, setting the early tone for an upbeat game. Mo's eyebrows raised slightly as the offensive play rolled on. Ladies and gentleman what we then proceeded to see was one of the most polished displays of a team offense I and my cousin Mo have seen for some time. Whether it was outside from guards Wilson, Chris and Huy or on sweet passes from point guard Wilson to big man Quan this team was on! Everyone was firing, big man Dee Davis was spreading the floor with his passes and hitting from mid range and Marty was causing massive headaches from the wing. Dynamo JC Artest had just returned from a tour to raise more money for “basketball shoes for homeless kids” and he was finding his groove as always by asserting himself defensively, strangely his number one supporter JoJo was missing from courtside and rumours abound that she is still recovering from a forthnight of hard partying and food in Asia.
I finally had a moment to take my eyes of the court at half time with MOJE holding a solid 12 point lead. I saw that Mo had also kept his eyes glued on the basketball that lacked some defensive focus by both teams but had the scorers fingers getting a work out. Mo still had a dim sim in his hand and that was unheard of! Only one dim sim in 20 mins! He ate the next six over the 1 min break at half time to make up for it. Mo made this interesting observation though. He muffled with a whole dim sim on mouth, " Cous, this team looks like it is playing for each other offensively and if they could stop the opposition's hot shooting guard #10, this game is clinic."
I heard a call at the start of the second half made by captain Huy that supported what Mo said. Our team went box and one and sent "the blanket, in JC Artest" to play on #10. Their offensive leader was not able to score for the remainder of the game as JC and Huy shared duties that threw thier opposition off their game. Moje proceeded to score at will with missed shots being a rarity. Wilson hit. Chris hit, Quan continued to drop baskets baseline, Huy finished in transition and even JC hit a three. The opposition was risking embarrassment as the lead nudged 40. It was Marty though that put the exclamation mark on this game. He was red hot from mid range, three point range and inside on numerous offensive rebound plays that signalled him as a real multi position player of note. Mo stopped eating during this display and I was able to steal a dim sim during a quick timeout. The fact I was able to steal a dim sim showed that my cousin was riveted.
MOJE had lifted their defensive play on the back of the box and one and Huy was causing havoc with Wilson up top, both getting more handsy on defense than a 15 year old school boy on a date with the school tart. They were causing turn-overs everywhere and one play of the game saw Huy finish while getting fouled hard after a team turnover. He hit the bonus. There were other contenders for plays of the game that included some sweet full court passes from JC and Wilson as well as an awesome rebound from veteran Chris Fisher skying for a contested gather.
The only blemish in the game was when Dee Davis got a finger in the eye and was knees bent at half court for some time. Doctors for the team are assessing the damage and will report soon if big baby Davis will be ok. MOJE ended the game winning by a comfortable 31 points against a spirited but outclassed opposition. I heard one official question the legitimacy of MOJE playing in this league as he felt they were perhaps too good. This writer doubts they could do anything about that but has also been around in basketball to know that most comps always has challenges and ways to even things out. This team would be nuts to get too confident. I did wonder though, just like my cousin Mo, who has already bought a season pass and has a ball signed by every player there that night, "what is this team like with this Damo, Dimmi, Ed and inspiring veteran Jerry who was missing also, when they play?" Can they even be better than what I saw last night. Surely not as what I saw last night was an awesome display of domestic ball played the way it should. A team playing for each other and enjoying it. Whatever the answer, this writer who has only covered Thursday ball to date and my cousin Mo will be here nice and early next week. Someone call the caterers to make sure the dim sims are bought in advance.

Firstly, we wanna apologise for the long delay in updating this website ! It has been long overdue mainly because so much has happened, and our little one is no longer an infant, but a time demanding toddler. Our time has flown since our last "hurricane holiday" update. But in a nut shell, from March to June, there was little activity as Daddy Yeu tried to finish his studies (YES all done now). And then from June to August, there was plenty of preparation for Caitlyn's 2nd birthday ! Which went terrific. We take for granted how much she has grown up, but looking back on this blog is a good contrast. We have to stop ourselves and realise that every month she is going into new larger clothes and longer shoes. And if we thought she was a chatterbox before, she has taken speaking and being bossy to a whole new level. But she makes us laugh every day, with both her comedic timing and amazing memory ! (Kids really are like sponges). Anyway, enough talk, lets let the pictures do the rest of the talking (due to tech. difficulties, no pics yet coming soon). Christmas is coming, so if we don't post beforehand, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all our friends and family.

So our little Princess has turned 19 mths and is really starting to show off her motor mouth. Although she can probably only say about 20-30 words, she really knows how to get her way these days (well, she has for awhile, but even more so now). Among her repertoire of words are turtle, also pronounced to-to, and bird, pronounced burrr, and No more, pronounced noh mo, (used mainly when she has finished devouring her snacks), and Nemo, pronounced nee moo, (used to identify any species of fish). We also discovered recently what a great traveler our little one is. Always happy to jump on a plane, another plane, a bus and then a ferry, all without complaining. Bear in mind, we also did fly into a cyclone affected area recently ! Not on purpose of course, just plain bad luck that the Whitsundays happened to be near Australia's worst cyclone (Larry) / storm on record ! Anyway, if not for the daily cheerfulness and curiosity of our little one, we would have ended up bouncing off the walls of our hotel as the rain continually pounded our "sun filled" holiday. So unfortunately we dont have any fun-in-the-sun pics for you this time, but hopefully we will soon. Hope you enjoy the miscellaneous pics over the last 3 mths !

Many apologies for the extremely long delay before this post. However, we hope the massive amounts of pics this update will make up for being lazy the last 4 months. So much has changed since the last update, it is hard to know where to start. Caitlyn has become such an amazing daughter these days that we have difficulty comprehending she is not even two yet ! Although she still isn't able to fully vocalised her intentions, she is already quite adapt at making sure she gets what she wants ! But also quite great at giving us many hugs and kisses. On Saturday 20th August 2005, Caitlyn Shu Ying Yeu turned the big number one ! It was a truly memorable day shared firstly with friends at a lunch party, followed by the obligatory Chinese dinner with relos and family. What a day ! Thanks for all those who made it, and shared in the great fun, and further thanks for all your pressies ! Its been a challenging and generously rewarding first year with our little princess, and we hope to share more of her childhood with you all in the future. Hello everyone. It doesn't seem like much has happened since our last post, but we always have to stop and think about how much Caitlyn learns every day. While she still can't walk yet, she is sooo close to standing up unassisted. And she has such an amazing vocabulary these days, able to say mum mum, dadada, and mum mum (for eating). She's also learning little games like peekaboo, although she's the one who's hiding and peeking out from behind a napkin or her bib or sunglasses ! We recently took her for a weekend away at our dear friend Lucy's place in Apollo Bay, and she made us so proud, playing with everyone and also sleeping and eating well. Of course Lucy our superb host made it so much easier ! (Thanks heaps Luce !) She even made some woolly friends (the Alpacas you'll see in the pics below). Speaking of friends, Caitlyn now has a steady weekly date with little cutie Joshua. Its gonna be fun to watch those two grow up together. Anyway, enjoy the pics and warmest regards from the Yeus !

....sleep deprived, chasing little pitter patters, breaking falls, preparing baby-safe food, breast feeding, acting like a punching bag and playing peekaboo. Caitlyn will be 10 months old this Sunday, and while its been a challenging time, it has also been indescribably rewarding. The last time we posted Caitlyn had just begun to hang off the side of tables. Well she's graduated to walking with her multi blinking and singing walker (an amazing time). She is now an experienced crawler so we've begun to baby proof everything. In fact, those who have come over to our place lately will also notice a significant re-arrangement of furniture to make the place more baby friendly. Our interior design scheme now focuses on how to fit her increasing toys & wardrobe, while attempting to seemlessly integrate tunnels, mats, carts and musical intruments. We need a house, although we're sure it would just translate to a bigger mess. Anyway we digress. Another major behind-the-scenes development is that Caitlyn now sleeps by herself, in her own room ! You cannot under-estimate the sheer enormity of this change. Instead of mummee having to breastfeed/soothe her through the night, she now goes to sleep (with some encouragement) by herself, and if we're lucky, wakes once before sleeping to about 7-8am, when she gets up for brekkie. As for food, she pretty much eats anything we eat now, with the exception of stuff made with nuts or eggs. She seems to enjoy most things, although recently she has taken a liking to rice noodles and drinking OJ from a straw. Anyway, just realised how massive this post is, so enjoy the new photos.

Hello peoples. Many apologies for the huge delay since our last update. We have had a hectic few months with babies of friends and close family popping out from everywhere. So many more friends for Caitlyn to grow up with. It seems the last few months have really flown by, and Caitlyn has developed much faster than our wildest expectations. It just seems like from the time she decided to sit up (2 months ago) she simultaneously decided to crawl, get on her knees and then pull herself up. At the start of April she (to our utter amazement) decided to start standing up and cruising around her cot (holding on to the railing of course). The first few initial times we saw this were fun of course.....but let us tell you the fun wore off pretty quickly. Sitting up = A few close toys + little supervision. Standing up = Pulling stuff on tables + Falling over + Bumping her head + And biting table corners ! To make matters even more hectic, Crawling = The ability to slide off sofas and beds + Carpet Burns on her knees + Dirty hands from dirty corners + Eating bits of carpet fluff. Therefore you can now forgive us for the long delay in making a post. The major plus of such a sharp increase in supervision is that we get to see her discover things for the first time, and that is a major joy. Anyway, we have tried to capture as much of her last 2 mths in pictures, so enjoy !

We are proud to announce Miss Caitlyn Shu Ying Yeu has reached yet another milestone in her development - Sitting Up. It has presented her with an all new perspective on life. That is, a whole new perspective to grab and bite her toys and look up at us adoringly ! We kinda got the timing wrong if you look back at our New Year post. Her tooth first sprouted in Feb, and now in early March she is sitting up. She has also graduated to eating many different vegies and fruits since her initial trial with wheat bix. If you want to please her, bring pumpkins, sweet potatoes, pears, peaches and apples, and if you want to annoy her bring spinach and broccoli (something we found a curious and yet accurate stereotype). I mean, if babies don't like em, surely there is a reason we shouldn't eat them...i.e. babies eat anything e.g. laptop bags, bottle caps, t-shirts etc...but I digress. Anyhow, it is obvious she has already quickly developed a sweet tooth, literally (she has but one tooth).

Caitlyn had her first solid food yesterday. She had a delectable conconction of formula milk and mashed up wheat bix (because she's now an aussie kid !, *and aussie kids are wheat bix kids*). She loved it ! Eventhough mum reports that the mixture tasted like off milk and cardboard. During the next few weeks, we will be trying more solids, like fruits and vegies, all mashed up beyond recognition of course. Also happy to report HRH Caitlyn's first tooth is beginning to show ! (Bottom row, second in the front).

We are back in Melbourne after a long but extremely enjoyable trip to Malaysia and Singapore, where we attended two wedding receptions, and about 15 other dinners, in the span of 3 weeks. We're happy to report HRH Caitlyn is a terrific traveller, so much so she never cried once on during all our 5 flights. On Sunday 23rd January 2005, Caitlyn Shu Ying Yeu was baptised as a Roman Catholic. The ceremony was held at Immaculate Conception Church Hawthorn, and celebrated by Father Brennan. Thanks to all our family and friends who attended and made it a truly special occasion for Caitlyn and us, her incredibly proud parents. Thanks also for all your gifts and well wishes. Enjoy some of the photos from our one fine day, and a few others taken over the last month. We're sure you will agree that our little 5 month old cutie is becoming increasingly adventurous and expressive.
